Club History
The Wasaga Beach Corvette Club was founded in 1991. Those founding club members shared a common passion for driving one of the most iconic sports cars in the world -- the Chevrolet Corvette! It is the same passion that drives the club today. This small group hosted two annual events, the Spring Fling Show & Shine and the WBCC Beach Cruize. Both these events have grown steadily over the years and the Beach Cruize became one of the renowned and anticipated Corvette shows in southern Ontario. For 25 years this event had been attended by Corvette owners from all over Ontario, other Provinces and even the U.S. The 2015 Silver Anniversary Beach Cruize event saw 500 participants. Due to the modest size of the club and their aging members, the time, effort, and resources to plan and execute both the Spring Fling and the Beach Cruize proved too much. The 2015 Beach Cruize was the final WBCC Beach Cruize. As of this writing there are no plans to revive the “cruize”.
For many years, the annual Spring Fling was held in Collingwood at Mike Jackson Motors. The Mike Jackson support and contribution was substantial and very appreciated. However, it just was not Wasaga Beach. So, in 2019 the club executive decided it was “back to the beach” for Spring Fling. The new venue was Wasaga’s own Canadian Tire on 45th Street.
In honour of “back to the beach”, the 2019 Spring Fling was granted something called the “Concours Signature” judging event where only a select number of Corvettes representing the crème-de-la-crème of Corvettes competed for the coveted trophy of the best in class. “Concours” brings Corvette owners from other clubs to vie for the distinction of a Concours winner.
In 2021, WBCC celebrated its 30th anniversary with no fanfare whatsoever courtesy of the Covid-19 pandemic its lockdowns. It was a blow to the club because the 30th Anniversary Spring Fling had to be cancelled just as Spring Fling 2020 was cancelled the year before.
The Wasaga Beach Corvette Club is a non-profit social club based in the town of Wasaga Beach. WBCC contributes to several local charities that have included Wasaga Beach Food Bank, Campbell House and My Friend's Place. When we are not hosting Spring Fling we are out on cruises, mystery tours and a sayonara to summer weekend getaway each autumn.
